Karington Advisory Committee

  Update September 20, 2007:

To date ( 9/19/07), there has not been any movement on the Karington development by the Michael Co.  The last meeting with the advisory committee left the developer working on the Marlboro Clay problem.  No further progress has been made known to the committee.

Karrington is a 381.52 acre parcel of land located in the southeast quadrant of Central Avenue and US 301. It is a mixed use development of single-family detached and attached homes; commercial and institutional uses.

It is envisioned that Karington will be a self sustaining community made up of 300,000 square feet of retail commercial space, 700,000 square feet of employment space, 25,000 square feet of school space, and a 300 room hotel. There is expected to be 1204 dwelling units composed of 170 detached homes, 272 attached homes, 600 multifamily homes, 112 condominiums, 120 high rise and 20 live-work.

THIS IS A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT AND TRAFFIC. Our Association with the surrounding communities were able to have the County Council establish an Advisory Committee to work with the developer to develop what would be a well planned and acceptable new community in our neighborhood. Our Association is a member of this committee. The committee was able to place in the approved Preliminary Site Plan a condition that the developer will add a southbound third lane on US 301 that will extend from MD 214 approximately 6,800 linear feet toward Trade Zone Avenue. This, hopefully will help alleviate the high volume of traffic we expect with the development on US 301 south.
