General Meeting Minutes
May 27, 2009

 

 

The meeting began at 7:30 p.m.

The Vice President, Richard Schroder, welcomed everyone, and then asked Senator Douglas Peters to begin the meeting due to his schedule.

Senator Peters  opened by updating the membership on recent legislation regarding speed cameras, the Death Penalty, cell phones, and plans for the  Prince George’s  Hospital.

 Senator Peters was followed by Delegate Marvin Holmes, Jr., who elaborated further on the Death Penalty, and changes in Maryland driver’s licenses which will become effective July, 2015. He also noted his efforts for more state offices in Prince George’s County.  Handouts included a personal letter to the Citizens Association of South Bowie, a pamphlet on the Maryland General Assembly and information on the “2009 Legislative Wrap-up.  The presentation was followed by a brief Question and Answer period.

 The Vice President then welcomed and introduced City Council members Dennis Brady, Isaac Trouth and Geraldine Valentino-Smith.  Each gave comments and updates on matters facing the Council. These included the budget, city police, the New City Hall project, code compliance and permits for the new library.

 Vice President Schroder noted that President Russ Ideo was unable to attend due to his recent surgery.  He thanked all the guests and noted that our next meeting will be September, 2009. 

 Meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
